Waffle’s Farewell and the Future of Project Management in GitHub

Earlier today, the team at Waffle.io announced that they will be closing their doors this May. As a fellow integration in the GitHub ecosystem, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the news and share some thoughts on the future that we see for both ZenHub and project management in GitHub.

Before going any further, we wanted to call out the incredible work of the Waffle team (both past and present) over the past four years. What the team has been able to accomplish during that time has been nothing short of impressive, and it’s been a ton of fun to build ZenHub alongside them.

On behalf of all of us here at ZenHub, we wish the Waffle team all the best in their next adventures!

What Does this Mean for ZenHub?

As we reflect on today’s news, we wanted to take this as an opportunity to confirm our commitment to ZenHub, our customers, and the opportunity that we see ahead. Even after four years, we feel we’re only scratching the surface of what’s possible in this space, and are more excited than ever to continue investing into the growth of our product and business.

We think that the space for developer-first project management is just getting started. As every company becomes a software company, code will be the centre of the business and the need for better tracking, visibility, and collaboration between teams will only increase.

From disruptive startups to global enterprises, more than 150,000 developers, product owners, and project managers have leveraged ZenHub to improve the way they manage software projects. Thousands more are continuing to join ZenHub each and every month.

As such, we’re excited to continue investing into both our team and our product. Since last May we’ve nearly doubled in team size, hiring across engineering, marketing, customer success, and sales. We’ve also continued to launch highly requested features like our newly revamped Reporting Suite, our Web and Mobile App, and soon, ZenHub Workspaces.

Migrating from Waffle to ZenHub

While Waffle is providing teams with a path to migrate their boards to GitHub Projects, we know that Waffle users have come to rely on advanced features like Epics, Estimates, Issue-PR linking and more. While many of these features don’t exist in GitHub Projects, they are a big part of ZenHub. As such, we’re exploring a migration path to seamlessly allow Waffle users to transfer their Boards and Reports to ZenHub as an additional migration option. More on this soon.
